Wicker Craftsman - House of Weaving

🌿🌳🧝O.K.A.F crafts🧝🏾🌳🌿

Our core belief is shown by using natural materials in our crafts, O.K.A.F is the acronyms for Oway (Rattan), Kilang (wood), Awal (Bamboo) and Fakeloh (Stone) in Amis language. We are dedicated to take care of our land as we depend on it.
We specialize in weaving with rattan, it could be used in crafts and binding bamboo or wooden structures for natural building. We also use a variety of other plants for decorating purposes. Relying on natural materials is our statement that creation could restore natural resources and a culture that promotes sustainability

🌿Rattan🌿
Oway is the Amis word for native rattan in Taiwan. It is also a gift from this island to us indigenous people. Almost all indigenous groups use rattan for binding structures in houses & boats, weaving baskets, and for rituals. Rattan has its own natural waxy coating that forms a protective layer, and the tensile strength of its fibers could be used to hold the structure of the house; wild rattan are tested by the weather in climatic areas, they climb up and sometimes fell down, which cause its skin to change in color and texture, thus collecting rattan from our forest is what we are committed to.

After a sequence of procedures from collecting, cutting, node trimming, splitting, tanning, peeling and shaving, they can finally be woven into a variety of utensils used in daily life. Rattan pulled from the forest enters the scene of our daily lives, it possesses our spirit of survival and effort.
