Hip-hop talent AZ (Li Hsiao-Tzu) has been nominated "Album of the Year Award" and "Best Indigenous Language Album Award" of the 35th Golden Melody Awards for his groundbreaking Indigenous hip-hop album, “PAMERICAH (Amis Education)”, in Taiwan. He is recognized as a pivotal figure in East Coast, dubbed the "Taiwanese Jin-Tsheng Wu of rap," and hailed as a pioneer of Indigenous hip-hop.
He made his mark as a musician in various singing competitions since 2012. He joined Only Music in 2020, releasing the hip-hop dance single "East Coast”, and the organic reach of the music video is 170,000. In 2021, he has become the member of the Indigenous hip-hop group MAMA'AN, releasing the first Amis hip-hop album in Taiwan, “MAMA'AN (What’s up)”, actively promoting Amis culture through his music. Beneath his chiseled look lies the bloodline of one of the largest and oldest tribes of the Amis people, the Fata'an tribe. His Amis name, "Mayaw," means "a star guarding the moon." After experiencing the mainstream music scene, he continuously reflects on how to merge the essence of his tribe with popular music. He actively participates in selel/kapot (Lasana'), which means an age hierarchy in Amis Tribe’s traditional social organizations," to deeply engage with tribal events and learn about cultural contexts from elders.
In 2022, he released the single "Desperate Pacific," which achieved a organic reach of 500,000 views on TikTok, and has since set a record with 800 collaborative videos that continue to grow. In 2023, he launched his debut album, “PAMERICAH (Amis Education)”, a hip-hop project dedicated to promoting Indigenous culture while integrating it with hip-hop and pop music, injecting new energy into Taiwan's music scene. He hopes to create a unique rhythm for Taiwan, fostering a strong sense of national pride and identity among his people. In 2024, he was nominated for the 35th Golden Melody Awards for "Best Indigenous Language Album" for his first Amis-language hip-hop album, “PAMERICAH”
