【PASIWALI 2023】
For six years running...
Taiwan's East has nurtured numerous Indigenous groups while hosting the annual Taiwan PASIWALI Music Festival, a large-scale dance event that brings together thousands. Through music creation training camps, many talented young Indigenous artists have emerged.
Out of a highly competitive pool of applicants, fifteen were selected to compete for the PASIWALI Grand Prize. From songwriting and arranging to performing on the final stage, these artists vied for the championship! Under the guidance of seasoned industry mentors—Gao Chao (Lin Zhi-ren), Biung （Wang Hong-En）, Baobu Badulu, Sakinu (Luo Zhi-Hui), and Xiao Xiao Du (Du Zhi-Hao)—the students forged revolutionary teacher-student bonds. Ultimately, ten groups of participants were chosen to enter the finals, with their live performances recorded for this year’s compilation album. Many participants used their native languages as the foundation for their music works, bybridzing traditional melodies, dance music, rock, folk, and jazz, showcasing the diversity of mother tongue compositions and various musical genres. Their works revolve around the rich emotions tied to their hometowns, lands, and families, imbuing the songs with profound cultural depth. The 2023 PASIWALI compilation album is set to release its sixth volume, with these ten performers embodying the spirit of contemporary creators and witnessing the shining trajectory of Indigenous artists!
